Alright, alright, I've heard from enough of you that you want to see pictures. Here are some recent ones!!!
This is what happens in our house if you fall asleep during General Conference! The girls and I decided to pull a little prank. Poor Kian. When he woke up, he denied ever having fallen asleep! We were all giggling so loud, he was definitely asleep! When he saw the pictures, he was surprised!
The girls are always dressing Klaus up. Here they are pulling him around the house on a blanket pirate ship.
Easter morning! Beautiful kids!
Mom and kids. Happy Easter!
Holding Abby's new chicks!
She could handle 3 of them at once, but not all four!
Kian acting as a roost for the chicks.
Again, Klaus dressed up!
It's hard to see in the picture because his hands are covering it, but after enjoying dinner with the missionaries, Klaus put on his tie and held his scriptures just like they were! I had to catch a picture!
With potty training going on full force, Klaus is often found out-of-doors without his pants on. They're easy to pull off, not so easy to pull back on! And when he plays in the mud, his bum gets muddy!!
The girls helped me plant HUNDREDS of flowers in the front yard. They are super-gardeners! I wonder where they get it from?!
Ella harvested a giant radish. She was so proud!

Easter!
This Easter weekend was great, even though we didn't do our normal traditions.
Friday Matt was off of work and Kian was at a Boy Scout activity, so Matt, the 4 younger kids and I had a picnic lunch at a local lake/park. We walked a mile trail--Klaus did great walking the whole way. We attended a real estate auction at the county courthouse and were the only ones in attendance. We asked the auctioneer a lot of questions which was educational.
Friday night we attended a fundraiser/spaghetti dinner/free babysitting event to support the Young Womens program at church. It was a great evening for everyone. Delicious food!
Saturday I worked at the library so Matt took the kids to a different local state park to attend an Easter Egg Hunt. Three of the kids won prizes! They had a blast. Saturday evening we pretty much just got ready for Sunday. Kian prepared his talk for Sunday morning church. We all made "resurrection rolls" for Easter morning breakfast. Marshmallow and cinnamon and sugar inside of dough = yummy goodness for breakfast. (We don't usually eat this stuff!)
This morning, Sunday, Matt was home to help with getting ready for church. That was a treat! And then we got to eat our resurrection rolls! We took a few family pictures! The girls all looked beautiful with their matching floral crowns from my brother's wedding last summer. Kian's talk was great. Church was great. Klaus went to Sunbeams happily! This afternoon, Ella and I took a relaxing stroll along our road. The kids weren't expecting an easter egg hunt in our woods like usual because they went to one yesterday (and because I couldn't find the easter baskets or eggs and didn't want to buy candy). So they were surprised to find that the Easter bunny had in fact hidden some goodies on our trails. They weren't baskets, however, they were gifts! I had received 3 razor scooters from a friend with triplets who moved away and kept them hidden in the back of the car for a couple of months! I picked up "National Treasure" for $2 for Kian plus a new cool pen and ruler. And for Klaus I bought a random collection of cars and trains from a thrift store for $4. Each kid found their gift hiding in a tree along our trail with a note from the Easter bunny. They were all so surprised and happy. Felicity was convinced the Easter bunny is truly real!
They all played outside with their new toys while dinner cooked, screaming about how much they love easter. Nothing traditional for dinner (we don't do ham anymore!) But the potato soup was delicious and homemade rolls with honey are always welcome! After dinner chores, we made our Easter dessert: melted dark chocolate in the fondue pot with sliced bananas, sliced apples and pretzels for dipping. We devoured them!
We had some fun resurrection activities, sang some Easter hymns and before bed we all enjoyed reading stories from a family history collection about the kids' great-great-grandfather and great-great-grandmother. Even Klaus was listening attentively!
Days like this are perfection. It doesn't get better than this. I am so thankful for the love Matt and I share, for our beautiful children, and for the happiness we enjoy by following our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Update March 2014
What are the kids up to? What fills our days up so full that before we know it, it's bedtime again?!
This winter has been COLD and COLDER. I've tried to look at the positive side of it, however, and recognize that when days are cold and short we have nothing better to do than study and read. So school gets done! There are less distractions which is nice. Sometimes we get snow days in the middle of the week. Sometimes we get snow days that last all week!!
Spring seems to be approaching, I think. It's time for me (Rhyetta) to start planning and planting spring veggies. It's not quite warm enough for me to want to be outside yet, but hopefully soon. As the snow melts away, the yard gets muddy. Today was the first time Klaus got to play outside for a very long time due to cold weather. He's so happy sloshing through puddles and throwing rocks. All the kids love to be outside except Kian. He doesn't desire to be outside the way the other kids do. I have to ask him generally (but it has been cold, that might be why).
For school we start our day with Team Cleanup. For 15 minutes we all work hard on deep cleaning. I love having all the kids help me. I don't feel like I'm the only one doing cleanup anymore. I've finally taught the kids to do the dishes too. How awesome to say, "Abby, please do the dishes. Kian, please clean up the counters. Ella, please tidy the living room. Felicity, please get the dining room ready for our next meal." And it gets clean!
The kids are learning more and more how to cook and bake. Abby still loves baking muffins. She's branched out into cookies too. Kian has always loved to bake cookies. Ella can do cookies on her own now. She's learning more meal kind of foods too. Felicity wants to learn how to do it all on her own as well. Matt is now the designated baker. His whole wheat bread loaves come out better than mine! He's amazing! I try to stay out of the kitchen as much as possible and make things as easy as I can. Even so, I'm in there a lot! My favorite winter breakfast: oatmeal with frozen banana slices, any other kind of bite size fruit, chopped walnuts, cinnamon and blackstrap molasses. It's such a treat!
We are also studying Spanish together. The kids are really picking it up now that we've got a good resource to use from the library. We have devotional everyday and are studying the scriptures along with the Constitution. The kids break up to work on their own levels in English and math. Felicity and I have a reading lesson together. We usually have a snack break, then come back together for history. We are finishing up Ancient History. Then we break up again for science. PE comes after lunch usually. Then we've got an hour of Silent Reading. Although for the past couple of weeks we are reading out loud together the 2nd book in the Flavia de Luce series, "The Weed that Strings the Hangman's Bag" by Alan Bradley. I can't recommend these books enough. They are murder mysteries classified as adult fiction but they are not gruesome. The heroine is a 12-year-old girl, Flavia, who loves chemistry and independence. She is clever and precocious and we laugh out loud at her antics. This is not like a typical juvenile read aloud. This is something even adults will enjoy. But that is my personal opinion.
We occasionally get together with other homeschooling families to have parties or do service projects or go visit interesting sites in our area. The kids go to Primary on Sunday and Kian is active in Scouts and Young Mens. Abby and Ella attend Activity Days twice a month with other girls their age at church. Aside from this, we play and learn and read and watch good shows and cook and eat and clean and sleep!
Matt got a teaching position at a brand new school opening in St. Joseph. It is in a nice area. It is a non-title school. He will have parent support. He will be in an air-conditioned building!!
Rhyetta (me) keeps busy with homeschool, housekeeping, working at the library, serving in Young Womens (the best calling in the world), learning, etc. My current interest is real estate investing. We're thinking of buying a property in Cameron to rent for profit. We'd like to pay off our mortgages on our Spanish Fork house as soon as we can since they are at such a high interest rate.
We're still eating healthy and exercising every day.
Klaus is such an active 3-year-old. He's tiring, really tiring. Winter doesn't help either. He's speaking clearer and learning how to dress himself. He loves stories, minions, playing with this siblings and being close to Mom and Dad. Sometimes he asks for a snuggle. I think the creators of "Despicable Me" studied the lives of 3-year-olds to model their minions after.
Felicity is growing more and more into a girl. She's less shy. She wants to learn how to cook. She is almost reading. Everyone still falls in love with her red hair.
Ella is always reading or playing happily with someone. She is great with little kids. She loves to wear jeans and plain clothes (like I did as a kid) whereas Abby wants skirts and dresses. Abby hates tennis shoes. Abby is now in charge of buying all of her own clothes and shoes. When I buy them, she always cries about them for some reason, any reason, so she will now be in charge of her own wardrobe. She found a darling pair of winter boots yesterday at a secondhand store in Platte City for only $1.75. That's a good start!
Kian devours any book placed near him whether it's a baby's picture book or a college textbook. All of the kids are currently enjoying the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series a friend of ours handed down to us. We are studying chemistry, he and I, and enjoys balancing chemical equations even if they aren't really possible. He just makes them up. He gets more answers correct in our chemistry lessons than I do and does the problems in his head.
Well, that's an update. That's what keeps us busy from sun-up to sun-down. We love y'all!

A story of coincidence that helped me feel God's love
When I travel northeast to Jamesport, Missouri I bring along my checkbook. It's the easiest way to pay at the Amish and Mennonite stores I visit for bargains on produce and groceries. They do have credit and debit card readers but in my experience they are unreliable. I never carry cash with me, so I've learned to just pay by check.
Saturday morning when I had to wake up early (everyone in the house was still sleeping!) to go pick up some produce I had ordered, I located the checkbook and discovered there were no checks left. So I found our stash of new checks in my bedroom and then discovered there were no checks there either! How could I have used the last pack of checks and not made a note to buy more?! Sometimes this momma gets too frazzled to be efficient!
So, here I was, early Saturday morning, and I had no way to pay for my orders. One was for bulk onions, potatoes and carrots from a man named Max. The other order was from a personal friend of mine who ordered wheat in bulk and sold me a few 50-lb bags. I knew they couldn't accept debit cards. And I had no checks! I couldn't just hit a store on my way and get cash back because there are no stores on the way that direction that offer cash back!
So what was I going to do? The only option I could think of on that early Saturday morning was to grab a $100 bill from my precious Christmas cash (a generous gift from my hardworking father) and all the cash I could find in mine and Matt's wallets which amounted to $9. Important note: this Christmas cash had been heavily guarded. I did NOT want to use it on bills or necessities. I wanted to use it for a couple of super-fun date nights which is a luxury Matt and I never seem to afford. The fact that I grabbed a bill showed the desperateness of my situation! I zipped out the door and sped to my destination, hoping the cash I had with me would be enough.
When I got there (10 minutes late), the produce was carried to my car and the time to pay was imminent. I asked Max how much my order was. It had changed because a couple of items I had ordered weren't available. He told me $47. I asked him if I gave him $107, could he give me $60 back? He checked his stash of cash and didn't have enough. I then asked my source for wheat if I paid him the $100 bill, could he give me change (which I could then use to pay Max for the produce). He checked his wallet and discovered he didn't have enough. Oh, man. I was afraid this would happen. Now what was I going to do?
We three of us put our heads together and figured out how much exactly I owed. Max counted his cash again and we figured out that if I paid him the $100 bill, he would owe me $53 in change. Guess how much he had exactly in change? $53!! It was incredible! I took that $53 in change and then added the $9 I had remaining (from mine and Matt's wallets), and had exactly enough to pay for the wheat! The total for wheat was $61.50 and I had $62. It was so phenomenally coincidental, it was hilarious!
But using the $100 of fun money to pay for food was sad to me. I was really looking forward to some fun date nights with Matt. I'm thankful, however, for the exact amount of money I needed for food for my family! That was a blessing enough!
Today at church Matt and I were given a late Christmas card with a surprising gift inside. One of the people Matt carpooled with last semester gave it to us. The funny thing is that she apologized for it being so late. But to me, the timing couldn't have been more perfect. Can you guess what the present was? It was two movie theatre passes and a gift card to a nice restaurant in St. Joseph! A wonderful date night for Matt and I to enjoy. Coincidence?! Maybe. But this coincidence was enough evidence for me to feel cared for and loved by my Father in Heaven.

A Short Story by Abigail
A child went on an errand for his mother to find the little dipper. He asked a wise man,"Where is the little dipper?" The wise man answered,"Up in the sky of course." The child shook his head with a sigh, and he kept on looking. Then he found a foolish man. The child again asked where was the little dipper. But the foolish man did not know. It was growing dark when the child returned without the little dipper. The very sad child then asked his mother,"Where is the little dipper?" The smiling mother then replied."While you were gone I made soup. The little dipper is here in your bowl." And then the mother and the child had their favorite soup: Dipper Soup. Yum, yum.

Why Toddlers are Sometimes SO Exhausting!!!
Technically, he's a preschooler now that he celebrated his 3rd birthday, but Klaus is still having difficulty with making it to the potty, so he feels like a toddler to me.
Here are some words to describe this past Sunday morning's adventure. We were just getting ready for church!
Me: Dressing, hair styling, makeup applying, primping.
Klaus: Pooping (no diaper on, not even underwear on, just long footed pajamas--can we say GROSS?!?!), crying, bathing, washing, rinsing, and washing again.
Klaus: Drying, digging (for church clothes, that is), dressing (in underwear).
Me: Packing bags, selecting proper church footwear (for three daughters), hair-doing, teeth brushing, snack preparing.
Klaus: Peeing (in his church clothes!), apologizing, undressing, digging (for church clothes AGAIN!), unpacking bags to find diaper necessities.
Me: Helping children, avoiding meltdowns, finding (him, on the kitchen counter, pouring honey into the mixing bowl), dripping sticky, feeling tired, watching the clock, recognizing we are going to be late, sinking into despair, holding back tears, talking it out, rising above it and NOT letting it get me down.
Klaus: Washing hands, washing face, washing clothes, undressing (AGAIN!), digging for more clothes, dressing (AGAIN!), putting on shoes and coat.
Me: Repacking bags, finishing touches, collecting children, smiling as we FINALLY get out the door! Feeling proud that for such a busy morning there was no yelling, no being snappy, no crying (on my part). Phew!
